St Ives is reputed to have inspired artists for
two centuries. Should this inspiration work for
you and you feel the urge to not just look at art
while you are here but make some yourself 'ultramarine'
will be an ideal base for you.
In our guests studio you will find space, light,
tranquility, and some basic materials to accommodate
your efforts. If you are an experienced artist
you will find a peaceful place to work without
having to worry about blobs of paint ending up
on the carpet. As a beginner you will find a good
environment to just have a go.
But beware - this could easily lead to a lifelong
passion!
in-house classes
Private tuition in painting and drawing (all media, all levels) can be arranged for you in-house any time you like, also "taster sessions" for beginners. Your tutor will be Doris Lindemann, an experienced painter and printmaker and a fully qualified teacher, who has exhibited her work widely in England and abroad. She will also offer a program of classes for small groups and painting expeditions, where she will take you to attractive locations in st ives or nearby for a session of "en plein air" painting. All these are suitable for everybody, from the experienced artist to the total beginner. Materials can be provided if you so wish. Please contact us in advance of your stay to make arrangements.
st ives school of painting
The St Ives School of Painting offers life classes and workshops available to everybody. Classes are usually on a weekly base and include life weeks, landscape workshops, summer painting, contemporay workshops and others. For these classes you need to enrol in advance. Life classes are available throughout the week, also some artists' workshops. These do not need pre-booking.
porthmeor printmakers
The Porthmeor Printmakers offer courses in a selection of hand-printing techniques such as etching, monoprinting and collagraphing. No previous experience is needed, pre-booking is essential.
