For the first time in 2010 I will tutor a painting holiday with Art in the Algarve, a specialist art holiday provider set up in 2008 by a father and daughter in the quaint and charming town of Olhao. An artist's paradise with historical buildings dating back to 1800 this beautiful little town is one of the Algarve's last remaining working towns.

The history of Olhao is connected to the local fishing industry dating back to the 17th century, and to this day you will see fishermen delivering fresh fish on a daily basis to the famous market. The buildings in Olhao show a Moorish flavour. There are many crumbling, empty houses in Olhao which have stood empty for several years. On seeing these beautiful buildings Art in The Algarve set out to restore and preserve some of them.

Art In The Algarve believes in offering artists a chance to sample a true look into the Portuguese way of life whilst combining their love of painting in this beautiful, enchanting, historic town. Set in the heart of Olhao's protected historic area one can find the Olhao Art School. With vaulted ceilings, Roman brick work, three courtyards and an olive tree (believed to be over 150 years old), the school has been restored offering an exceptional space for artistic creativity. An additional feature is the beautiful light outside which filters through from the large windows and courtyards. There is something romantic about the building. It is exceptionally charming, has an abundance of old features and is a fantastic place to gather inspiration.

• The Art School can comfortably accommodate up to 10 artists and a teacher.
  We supply all easels both radial and portable, along with a selection of props and paper. Canvasses, paints and brushes can be supplied at an additional fee.
  
  
• Prices include 6 days of morning and afternoon art lessons (approx. 2 hours per lesson) and shared accommodation in Olhao for 7 nights on a full board basis. Details on accommodation at www.artinthealgarve.com
  
  
• Food comprises of a continental breakfast, lunch at the Art Bar will be tapas and salad and dinner will be in one of the local restaurants. Throughout the day there is access to cold drinks.
  
  
• The courses start on Sunday and each day will consist of up to four hours tuition during the day (9.30am & 3.00pm) There will be a trip to the neighbouring islands during the week, as well as excursions around the town.

• To make a booking a 40% deposit will be required. If paying in pounds prices will be converted from Euro to pound on the day of booking at the current exchange rate.
  
  
• For those wishing to bring a non painting partner the cost is €500 for the partner which includes accommodation and food.
